Genpei Tou Ran Game Sample - PC/Doujin
(or "The Genji and Heike Fight War") is a fighting Doujin game based around Namco's odd oldie Arcade game, Genpei Toumaden (or Genpei Touma Den / "The Genji and Heike Tale of the Demon's Demise"). The series has had little exposure outside of Japan, with the original game being released in the compilation "Namco Museum Vol. 4" as "The Genji and the Heike Clans", its PC-Engine sequel being released in the U.S. under the title of "Samurai Ghost", and a cameo of the main character (a resurrected "Taira no Kagekiyo") is seen in Tales of Eternia (A.K.A. "Takes of Destiny II"). You can read more about Genpei Toumaden at:

The graphics and animation are okay; some things look a little odd, but are generally pretty good. What helps this game shine is the dynamic backgrounds; few FM games put much detail into the stage designs and focused primarily on the characters (if anything), though there were some exceptions like the Morning Musume Fighter (Battle Festival), Vanguard Princess, and Super Cosplay Wars. The audio is laughable in the sense that it mainly recycles the old-school bleeps and bloops of yesteryear with basic .midi themes and low-quality digitized voice samples, similarly to Necros no Yousai. Strangely, it doesn't bother me for the most part and I somehow got used to it... it's less obnoxious than NnY anyway. Overall, it's pretty good though. The game is quite large... about 800MB uncompressed, and comes with a Normal and Hard version. You can get the game at:
